Updates for Humira (adalimumab) and biosimilars
We want to make you aware of a pharmacy benefit formulary change that will go into effect January 1, 2027 for our Commercial and Exchange lines of business. Please note that additional formulary changes effective January 1, 2027 will be posted on the Mass General Brigham Health Plan website on November 1, 2026.
Effective January 1, 2027 for the Commercial and Exchange lines of business, the biosimilars adalimumab-aaty, adalimumab-adaz and Hadlima will be preferred; prior authorization and quantity limit restrictions will apply. Humira and all of its remaining biosimilars will be nonformulary and prior authorization requests will be reviewed against the plan’s Nonformulary Medications criteria.
Members with active authorizations for Humira or a nonformulary biosimilar will require a new prior authorization to continue filling on or after January 1, 2027. Any requests for Humira or a nonformulary biosimilar that are approved will pay at a higher tier.
All impacted members will be notified via letter by November 1, 2026. Providers with impacted members will receive a copy of the member notification letter. Additionally, all providers will be notified via the November provider newsletter.
Please refer back to the Mass General Brigham Health Plan website on November 1, 2026 for additional formulary changes going into effect on January 1, 2027.
